It is difficult to say that the 2007 Showdown at the Hoedown at Eisenbergs Skatepark was the best contest to date in Hoedown history, but it was. The park setup altered a little bit from last year.  The huge pink kink that went over the bank channel was removed, and the low kink along the escalator side of the W ramp was replaced with a tall handicap rail.  The new death obstacles added especially for the contest were short slant rails on either side of the huge sub box.

The contest began with three heats of about 20 skaters per heat, and no one wasted any time with warm up tricks.  The crowd responded loudly as crazy switch ups and transfers happened on the rails and boxes.  Seven skaters from each heat advanced to the next round, and since there was one tie, this brought the number to 22.

The super session was overwhelming to watch.  Stockwell and Bailey were ripping long trick filled lines throughout the whole park, while the rest of the competitors chose an obstacle and assaulted it.  The down ledges and rail were punished by Haffey, Aragon, Chaz Sands, and Skatepile’s own Andrew Jacuzzi.  Haffey took his newly acquired skiing skills and put them to use with the biggest gaps and transfers of the day, included a gap over the sub box to the small middle transition on the W ramp.

The finalists were decided and it was time for the winner to step up and earn the crown.  Haffey qualified first going in to the finals, but that didn’t stop him from attacking the course from all angles.  His alley oop fish to drop on the shotgun wall was incredible.  Other notables include Bailey’s true oop top acid to 270 out on the sub box, Stockwell’s alley oop wallride rewind out, and Fish taking best trick with an alley oop topsoul on the sub box to forward soul on the slant rail.  Hawke Trackler was in the house, so be on the look out for his edit coming to a youtube near you.
