Where was the best place you visited this summer?
Nashville, since it was the only place I visited this summer. They have a really relaxed and tight scene, not to mention some of the best spots.

How many skate comps/events have you attended so far this year?
Hmmmm, I went to a AIL comp in nashville, the Boots, Burgers, and Hammers comp (courtesy of Brian and Carson Starnes) was awesome, and I to the AIL comp at progressive last weekend.

Name your top 3 skate events of all time.
‘02 Superhick
‘05 Superhick
‘09 Boots, Burgers, and Hammers

What is the newest skate dvd you purchased?
There have not been many new one recently, but the most recent one I bought was Vibralux On Top.

What kind of cellular device do you have?
iPhone 3G

Could you live without it?  For how long?
No, I feel lost whenever I don’t have it on me. I kinda bugs me how reliant I am on technology.

How has blading made you a better person?
Exposed me to many different lifestyles and personalities. It has created a driving force within me to be creative and not settle for things “in the box”.

If you didn’t have blading where would you be right now?
Face down in a ditch maybe, haha. I don’t know, I think about those types of questions alot. I don’t things would be much different, I would probably alot more focused on art and music, but I think in the long run I would end  up where I am right now.

Do you think you personally contribute to creating new bladers?
Not to creating new bladers, but I contribute to educating non-bladers. Like my roommates, none of whom blade, now watch skate videos with me and know a bit about the industry. Educating a person on skating is the 1st and most important step to someone who might start blading. Every blader should know about the industries history and the key players within it, past and present. If there is more education in new bladers, it will create a more fruitful industry and reputation.

If yes, how?  If no, why not?
Woops, read the response above, I kinda went off on a tangent.

Current set up:
Salo Rob Thompson’s w/ Razors souls and backslide, Ground Control Frames and Face Wheels.

What is the newest skate dvd you purchased?
Southern Motion.  It’s really fun to watch, and the skating is good and stylish.

What kind of cellular device do you have?
I have an LG dumbphone.  No internet, no camera, and texting is disabled.  Just make calls, take calls, and check voicemail for me.

Could you live without it?  For how long?
I’m not a big fan of phones so I could live without it for a while.  Especially if I could communicate via the internet on a non phone device.

How has blading made you a better person?
The evolution of my skating has enabled me to draw parallels to the ups and downs the Way of the Boot has with life as a whole.  It has improved my personal relationships, my perception of my surroundings, and the goals I have for my life.

kind-grind.JPG

If you didn’t have blading where would you be right now?
If I lost the ability to skate today, I would just relive it over and over in my head to get through the bad times.  If I had never found it to begin with, I don’t know where I’d be.  Skating has brought me to some wonderful places where I have met the most wonderful people, and hopefully I would have found another way to connect with the world.

Do you think you personally contribute to creating new bladers?
I try to be approachable when I’m at a skatepark or I’m at a location where there’s kids around.  I make it a point to say hello and break the ice so the kids don’t feel as nervous when asking me how to do something, or if I can do a misty flip or a 900.

Current set up:
Rollerblade Solo Estilo’s setup flat rocker in the RB Switch frame with 60mm Andy Kruse model Face wheels because I’m a geek.  Stock bearings, Superfeet insoles and some Skatepile stickers round out the setup.

Where was the best place you visited this summer?
I had a good ol’ trip up to Tennessee for my parent’s anniversary. Got to see the fam. It was fun times.

How many skate comps/events have you attended so far this year?
One, Bittercold. It was really cold. I couldn’t feel my feet when I skated in my heat (I know, how ironic). I didn’t really enjoy it too much.

Name your top 3 skate events of all time.
Superhick - 2002 (Rob G killed it so hard that year. Pat Lennon fakie backflip?!)
HoHoHoes 2007 (So sick. Everyone showed up and tore up all the spots.)
IMYTA Atlanta 2003 (Haffey’s 5 Kindgrind…Epic.)

What is the newest skate dvd you purchased?
Uh…I don’t remember the last time I bought a skate DVD. Maybe “Them Apples” like 5 years ago.

What kind of cellular device do you have?
Verizon LG from 2007. I’m not big on trendy, high-tech gadgets. Although, having the internet at all times seems amazing at some times.

Could you live without it?  For how long?
I couldn’t live without my phone. If I had to live without it I would hope it would be for less than a day.

How has blading made you a better person?
It enspires me to eat right and treat my body better. It helped me to quit smoking (twice), keeps my idle hands (or feet…whatever) occupied, and allows me an amazing artistic outlet that fuels my wicked adrenaline addiction.

If you didn’t have blading where would you be right now?
I’d probably either be doing something amazingly noble for mankind or I’d be a complete waste of human life drug addict/alcoholic who never did anything productive with his short sad existance (or I’d be dead).

Do you think you personally contribute to creating new bladers?
Probably not, I’m pretty anti-social. Maybe someone has seen what I do at a skatepark or something and dug it enough to go out and buy a pair of skates. That’d be rad.

If yes, how?  If no, why not?
I don’t know how to make other people want to rollerblade other than by going out and doing it. I saw it and thought it was cool, so I started doing it. I wanted to be that guy boosting big airs and going real fast and it’s all just evolved from there. That’s the only way I understand it, so that’s the only way I’d know to create a new rollerblader (Frankie Morales and Jaren Grob inspired me and they don’t know it, so maybe I’ve inspired someone too?!).

Current set up:
Black Shima V.2 NIMHs, Black Formula 1 GC frames, NIMH stock wheels.

Press Release from WRS - September 13, 2009  -

The success of the World Rolling Series in 2009 has been truly incomparable. Each event throughout the year, from Europe, Australia, Canada and the US, has pushed the progression of rollerblading to the edge and brought the community even closer together.

As with anything, change does not come without its controversy. But as the 2009 series comes to an end, it cannot be denied that this year will be looked upon in the future as a turning point for rollerblading. It is the year that the industries legends, professionals, manufacturers and event organizers came together to put the future of rollerblading into the hands of those that can truly make a difference; our own.

With all that has been accomplished, there is even more that still needs to be done. The WRS is finally proud to announce the WRS World Finals. The event will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 31 at Anthem Hills Skatepark and be the last chance in 2009 for competitors to earn points towards the overall world ranking. Once the impending battle between our industry’s top professionals is over, the WRS will crown the first rollerblading world champion in a decade.

So pack your bags and do whatever you can to make your way to Las Vegas on Halloween for what is sure to be one of the most memorable nights in rollerblading history.
